by Regional Style









(1) On June 20, 1868, a proclamation signed by the Governor General, Lord Monck, called upon all Her Majesty's loving subjects throughout Canada to join in the celebration of the anniversary of the formation of the union of the British North America provinces in a federation under the name of Canada on July 1st.
(2) The Republican Party was founded in 1854.
(3) An excuse to celebrate. This happens every month when the day and the date are the same number. (May 5, June 6, July 7, etc.)
(4) Bastille Day is National holiday in France. The Bastille was a prison in Paris that became to many the symbol of the oppression by the King. On July 14, 1789, a large number of French citizens gathered together and stormed the Bastille. The people of France celebrate the storming of the Bastille as the beginning of the French Revolution.
(5) A 'flitch' of bacon (half a pig) is awarded to a married couple who can prove to a mock court and a jury of bachelors, that they had lived in harmony and fidelity for one year. The origins of this custom are in Dunmow, Essex, England: references to it go back to the Medieval times.
(6) U.S. astronaut Neil Armstrong was the first human to walk on the moon on July 20, 1969, and he placed the U.S. flag.
(7) The Mormons settled in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 24, 1847

Acqua Pazza, (meaning crazy water) is an old recipe of the fishermen of the Neapolitan area. In the old days the catch of the day was sautéed in seawater, together with tomatoes and extra-virgin olive oil.
